IAG COMMUNIQUE
The International Advisory Group (IAG), represented by Member Abdou
El Mazide Ndiaye, participated in the workshop on extractive industries
organized by the Extractive Industries Review (EIR) from January 13
to 18, 2003, in Maputo, Mozambique.
The EIR is an independent review sponsored by the President of The World
Bank to examine with its stakeholders the future role of the Bank in
relation to extractive industries. In response to a request from the
EIR Secretariat, the IAG has transmitted its preliminary reflections
in written form on the following topic: From
the IAG perspective, what does it consider to be the strategic issues
related to the World Bank Group role in Extractive Industries to eradicate
poverty through sustainable development, globally as well as Africa
in particular. It is based on this document and its 21
months experience in the context of the Chad-Cameroon Project
that the IAG participated in and intervened at the EIR workshop in Maputo.
The documentation on the EIR workshop is available on its website www.eireview.org.
